LiDAR
LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is now commonly accepted as the most powerful technique for delivering highly accurate height data in a timely and cost-effective manner. It is a method of terrain mapping, which uses a laser to measure the distance between the sensor, normally airborne, and the ground surface. The resulting highly accurate terrain map is suitable for assessing flood risk, engineering projects and land and property development. LiDAR is also suitable for 3D visualisation and modelling.
Getmapping currently has LiDAR from two different suppliers.
Environment Agency
The Environment Agency offer a variety of elevation data products, all with a vertical accuracy in the range of 5cm to 15cm, with spatial resolutions ranging from 25cm to 2 metres. The archive of LIDAR data, collected over an 11 year period, is constantly being updated and there is now more than 62% coverage of England and Wales, including many major urban areas and rural flood plains.
The Environment Agency LiDAR is only available offline. Please call a member of our sales team to find out more.

Cities Revealed
LiDAR data is collected by a laser at intervals of between 1m and 2m on the ground, each height point has a vertical accuracy of is +/- 15cm. LiDAR data is referenced to the National Grid enabling simple integration with other geographic databases and Ordnance Survey mapping. LiDAR is available in a variety of formats and can produce both Digital Terrain and Digital Surface Models with extensive coverage of UK cities and urban areas.
The Cities Revealed LiDAR is available online and will appear in the products menu as an option where it is available.
